Fantasy Golf Leader Board

Bernardo Flores is still managing to kick everyone’s collective behinds, although no one had a very good weekend this past week in the Transitions Championship.  A youngster by the name of Gary Woodland, who has sneakily had a very good start to the 2011 season,  (Yesterday’s win, a 2nd at the Bob Hope, a 5th and a 6th, have him 3rd on the money list) wasn’t picked by anyone in the league…but might be an interesting play later in the season if he keeps this form up.

Here is a look a the current top-5, pretty similar to the way it has looked all year, with everyone chasing Mr. Flores.

Be sure to get your picks in this week for the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill.  It will be a nice field as everyone gets keyed up for the Masters in two weeks.  Happy picking fantasy golfers, and good luck.

Fantasy Golf Leader Board

What a weekend for us as Seattle golf fans.  The return of Freddie Couples to the Top-10 was a thrill to see for all of us here at RedBird.  Boom Boom flashed that old Riviera magic in the first 3 rounds, and was actually in the lead going into the weekend…but sadly that back acted up again on Sunday and cost him what could have been his first win since 2003.  Still, just seeing the guy in contention on Sunday was great fun, and hopefully will mean good things in 2011.  We all know he will play well at Augusta, maybe we can string together some other solid rounds on both tours this year and become the second player to win a PGA and Champions Tour event in the same year.

Leave it to Jay Turner to predict that Freddie would thrive at the course where he won back in 1990 and 1992.  Maybe it was a good guess, maybe it was ESP from a life long golf buddy, Jay called it, and that $200,000+ puts Jay solidly in second place in the RedBird Sports Golf League.  We are all still chasing Bernardo Flores who picked Bubba Watson a few weeks back and won over a million bucks.  Here is a look at the top-5…

1 bflores3 $1,184,560 Manage
2 turjay $669,654 Manage
3 tyman79 $466,096 Manage
4 Bunktown’s Bogeys $380,324 Manage
5 carma6335 $190,000 Manage

If you haven’t signed up yet, it’s not too late.  One tourney win would land you in the top 2, and a couple good weeks could easily get you the top spot.  It’s anyone’s league to win, so be sure to sign up now for great RedBird prizes.

RedBird Shop Talk – Lie Angle

In the third installment of RedBird Shop talk, Jay Turner explains what lie angle is, and how it directly impacts the fitting of your golf clubs.  There are a lot of factors that go into finding the golf clubs that fit you correctly, and lie angle is one of the major components.  At RedBird we talk often about how minor flaws in your golf clubs may be the difference between you being able to play your best golf, and improper lie angle is one of most common problems we see in golf clubs that aren’t custom fit.  We hope you enjoy the video, and we hope that this will help you understand just how important it is to find a set of golf clubs that fit you perfectly.

Updated Fantasy Leader Board

It was a good week for many of the participants in the RedBird Fantasy Golf league.  We had our first winner picked of the season, as Bernardo Flores chose Bubba Watson to win and subsequently took over the top spot in the league, earning over a million bucks.  Lot’s of people were on the Tiger band wagon this week, assuming he might be able to kick start his season on the course where he grew up, and in a Tourney that he has won 5 times.  Sadly for Tiger, and all who picked him, he is still pretty far away from the Tiger that we used to know.  Some young guns had a nice weekend at Torrey Pines, from Dustin Johnson (Who was picked by Jay Turner), to Anthony Kim (Who Andy Bunker chose), to Ricky Fowler (Who Brandon Turner picked), all 3 of those under-30 golfers finished in the top 20.  Here is the updated top 5…

Ranking Team Name YTD Earnings Actions
1 bflores3 $1,044,000 Manage
2 turjay $376,275 Manage
3 Bunktown’s Bogeys $217,190 Manage
4 carma6335 $190,000 Manage
5 tyman79 $115,328 Manage

It’s the Garbage Bowl this weekend in Arizona, as the PGA Tour heads to Phoenix for the Waste Management Phoenix Open.  There will be loud crowds, tons of beer consumed, and hopefully another winner picked by a RedBird Fantasy participant.  Be sure to get your picks in by Wednesday night.  Remember, Hunter Mahan was last year’s winner and he played very well last week in San Diego.  Also, of the three golfers who have attempted to defend as tournament champions this year (Bill Haas, Ryan Palmer, and Ben Crane), two of them have finished in the top 15, and Bill Haas was in a playoff to defend his Bob Hope championship.  What does that mean?  It means that defending champs are a good pick to do well, so think Mahan this week.

I hope everyone is enjoying the league, and be sure to invite more friends, the more the merrier.  Until next time, you might be a RedBird if you are in this fantasy golf league.

Welcome to the first edition of RedBird Shop Talk.  Today’s tutorial is dedicated to teaching you how to find the perfect grip for your game.  It’s important to make sure that all the aspects of your golf game fit you comfortably and correctly, and the golf grip is no exception.  In this video, we show you how to make sure that you are getting the best possible grip to optimize your on-course performance.

Wednesday Video Tutorials

Starting next Wednesday, we are going to be releasing a series of short videos on the blog that are dedicated to explaining the importance of the various pieces that make up your golf clubs.  Starting next week with the grip, we will explain how to find a grip that fits you correctly, and why having the right grip is a vital part of having the right club.

Our piece by piece series will have about 10 installments, until we completely break down each and every component to the golf club, and explain it’s individual importance to you the golfer.  The point is that a golf club isn’t just a rock on the end of a stick, and the more you understand how each piece can effect your game, the more you can appreciate how custom fit clubs can vastly improve your on course performance and enjoyment.

We are going to really encourage your comments and questions during this video process.  If anything is unclear, if you want more information on a certain aspect of the club, or if you just have general questions about how any of this will actually impact your game, please send us all of you thoughts.  The more interaction we get, the better we can explain just how important the custom fitting process is to your game.

So stay tuned, and get those questions ready.
